Kamsa’s sister prayed to Lord Vishnu to end Kamsa’s tyranny. Lord Vishnu affirmed that he would be born as their eighth child. He told them to switch the baby at birth to avoid having him be killed by Kamsa. The switch happened and the baby was named Krishna, a Divine incarnation of Vishnu. Kamsa continued his tyranny and devised plans to kill the baby Krishna.

Demons were taking over. Lord Vishnu must take birth in order save the world again. A cruel prince, Kamsa imprisoned his father and pronounced himself king. Kamsa’s tyranny threatened all. A prophecy warned that Kamsa’s sister would bear a son who would kill him, so Kamsa tried to kill his sister. He settled for imprisoning her and her husband. In prison, his sister gave birth to Balarama, Lord Vishnu’s eighth avatar.

Lord Vishnu’s avatars, Balarama and Krishna are written about in the great epic poem, the Mahabharata. The main story revolves around two groups of cousins and the war between them. On the battlefield of that war, Krishna gave teachings to Arjuna, which gave the Bhagavad Gita to the world. The Bhagavad Gita is one of the important texts of ancient India.

After Rama was crowned King of Ayodhya, the kingdom was flourishing. While Sita was pregnant, Rama learned that some of his people questioned her chastity because she had been imprisoned by Ravana for a long time. Rama decided that he must send Sita away to dispel the doubts of his people. Sita wandered the forest alone until she was found by a group of young sages being trained by their Guru, Valmiki. Valmiki welcomed Sita into the Ashram community, never revealing her identity to the others.

Rama, Nala and the monkey army complete the bridge across the sea connecting to Lankapuri. Ravana attempts to trick Sita into marrying him. Ravana refuses to make peace and a series of battles ensue. Because of his uncontrolled anger, Ravana is finally defeated in battle. Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman return to Ayodhya, after 14 years in exile. Rama is crowned King and because of his righteousness, a golden age follows, known as Rama Rajya.

Sita has been kidnapped by Ravana. Hanuman helps Rama to search for Sita and travels to the island city of Lankapuri. He finds Sita and returns to Rama with proof that he has truly found Sita. Together Rama and Hanuman devise a plan to rescue Sita. Ravana’s grandfather urges Ravana to release Sita and make peace with Rama, but Ravana is undeterred and readies his troops for battle.
